Police Records Request
Dear Ridgewood Police Department,
Please accept this electronic request for public records made under OPRA and the common law right of access. I am not required to fill out an official form or use a particular software platform to submit my request per NJSA 47:1A-6(f), which states that an email from a requestor including all of the information required on the adopted form shall suffice in place of a completed form as a valid government record request.
I HAVE NOT been convicted of any indictable offense under the laws of New Jersey, any other state, or the United States.
I WILL NOT use the requested government records for a commercial purpose.
I AM NOT seeking records in connection with a legal proceeding.
Records requested:
Police Body worn camera footage of all motor vehicle accidents between 8-1 and 8-7-25
My preferred delivery method for response(s) to this request is by E-mail as attachments. Please confirm you have received this request. If you are not the custodian of records, please forward my request to that person and provide their email address to me for future reference.
The maximum authorized cost is $0.
Yours faithfully,
Tony Michael
Good Morning,
The Ridgewood Police Department has received your OPRA request dated
October 5, 2025. The requested video footage falls under the category of
police body-worn camera recordings. Please note there are potential fees
associated with this request because each video must be individually
reviewed and, if necessary, redacted to remove any confidential or exempt
information in accordance with State law and Attorney General Directives.
An hour of video footage can take up to three hours to complete the review
and redaction process. The first hour of review is not billable, however,
any time exceeding that will be billed at $25.00 per hour. The total fee
is based on the length of footage and the time required to complete
redactions.
Below is an example of what you can expect:
Redaction Time for One Hour of Video Fee
1 $0
2 $25
3 $50
4 $50
Please note that the fees listed above apply per incident. Each separate
incident resets the redaction fee schedule. Depending on how many motor
vehicle accidents occurred between 8/1/25 and 8/7/25, the total cost may
vary and could be significant. Once you confirm that you would like us to
move forward with identifying and reviewing the footage requested, we will
begin the redaction process and send you a follow-up email with the total
cost estimate.
Best,
Ridgewood Police Department
