Ridgecrest Housing , 7-11 Ridge Road, Ridgewood, N.J. Shooting Incident

Dear Ridgewood Police Department,

Please accept this electronic request for public records made under OPRA and the common law right of access. I am not required to fill out an official form or use a particular software platform to submit my request per NJSA 47:1A-5(f), which states that an email from a requestor including all of the information required on the adopted form shall suffice in place of a completed form as a valid government record request.

I HAVE NOT been convicted of any indictable offense under the laws of New Jersey, any other state, or the United States.
I WILL NOT use the requested government records for a commercial purpose.
I AM NOT seeking records in connection with a legal proceeding.

Records requested: Access to and copies of any and all police reports, investigation summaries related to an event that occurred on or about August 23,2024 involving three men reportedly observed on the Ridgecrest property and alleged to have discharged firearm(s) towards a New Jersey Transit train. If any reports, supplements or related records exist for subsequent dates connected to the same incident ( e.g. follow-up investigations or reports filed after August 24,2024, specifically on September 17,2024 when Ridgewood Police met with Ridgecrest personnel -- please include those as well.

I am requesting: police/incident reports, supplemental reports or narratives, any available public information, not exempt under OPRA about the disposition or status of this incident specifically from September 17,2024 when Ridgewood Police were notified. If any portion of these records are exempt from disclosure please provide the non exempt portions and cite the specific legal basis for any redaction or denial.

My preferred delivery method for response(s) to this request is by E-mail as attachments. Please confirm you have received this request. If you are not the custodian of records, please forward my request to that person and provide their email address to me for future reference.

The Ridgewood Police Department received your Open Public Records Act (OPRA) request on Friday April 3rd, 2026 via email. This is our agency’s response to your request for records.

Regarding your request to access “all police reports”:

1. Incident Detailed report & Operation Report Access Granted, With Redactions for the following reasons:
a. Driver’s license, social security and phone numbers - (N.J.S.A. 47:1A-1.1)
b. Date of Birth and home addresses - (N.J.S.A. 47:1A-1 Privacy Interest - “a public agency has a responsibility and an obligation to safeguard from public access a citizen's personal information with which it has been entrusted when disclosure thereof would violate the citizen's reasonable expectation of privacy.”). Involved persons displayed signs of experiencing trauma from the event and the Ridgewood Police Department determined they have a reasonable expectation of privacy in the redacted personal identifying information.

At this time this request has been fulfilled and now closed.
