Order Superseding the Paterson Police Department

The request was refused by New Jersey Attorney General's Office.

Dear New Jersey Attorney General's Office,

This is a request for public records made under OPRA and the common law right of access. I am not required to fill out an official form per the updated rules of the Government Record Council; On page 17 of the handbook, the New Jersey Government Records Council states: "Internet Requests: Some public agencies and third parties (such as OPRAmachine) have created or contracted out systems that allow a citizen to fill out an online request form and file it with the custodian over the Internet. The means of submitting a request form (mail, in-person, Internet) will not affect which records will or will not be available for access.".

Please acknowledge receipt of this message.
Records requested:
- Order signed by the Attorney General superceeding the Paterson Police Department.
-Order appointing the Officer in charge of the Paterson Police Department

Yours faithfully,
Citizen

Good morning.

Please be advised that pursuant to regulation, N.J.A.C. 13:1E-2, submission of records requests by email to the Department of Law and Public Safety is not permitted. N.J.A.C. 13:1E-2.4(a) states: "Written Open Public Records Act (OPRA) requests shall be hand-delivered during normal business hours of the public agency, mailed or submitted electronically to the appropriate division or agency custodian of records over the Internet by means of a web-enabled OPRA request form [.] Submission of requests by e-mail or facsimile transmission is not permitted." Pursuant to this regulation, I am not able to accept your email as a valid OPRA request for access to government records.

You may instead submit your request through the State’s online form, located at: https://www-njlib.state.nj.us/NJ_OPRA/de.... Select "Law and Public Safety." Next, select "Office of the Attorney General." Alternatively, you may choose to mail in a written/paper request or mail in a completed records request form. I have attached a blank records request form. The mailing addresses for the Records Custodians of the Department of Law & Public Safety can be found on page 2 of the form.
