OPRA Request – Tax Sale Certificates Sold in 2023–2024 – Redemption Status
Dear Rahway City,
Please accept this electronic request for public records made under OPRA and the common law right of access. I am not required to fill out an official form or use a particular software platform to submit my request per NJSA 47:1A-6(f), which states that an email from a requestor including all of the information required on the adopted form shall suffice in place of a completed form as a valid government record request.
I HAVE NOT been convicted of any indictable offense under the laws of New Jersey, any other state, or the United States.
I WILL NOT use the requested government records for a commercial purpose.
I AM NOT seeking records in connection with a legal proceeding.
Records requested:
Pursuant to the New Jersey Open Public Records Act (N.J.S.A. 47:1A-1 et seq.), I respectfully request access to the following government records:
A copy of the tax sale certificate list for all certificates sold at the 2023 and 2024 municipal tax sales, including block/lot, property address, certificate number, sale date, purchaser name, and lien amount.
A report or record reflecting the current redemption status of those certificates, including whether each certificate has been redeemed or remains outstanding, as of the date this request is fulfilled.
Any record maintained by the Tax Collector identifying open tax sale certificates that remain unredeemed as of the date of fulfillment of this request.
I request that these records be provided in electronic format (Excel or searchable PDF), if available.
If any portion of this request is denied, please provide the specific statutory basis.
Delivery preference is via email
Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.
This OPRA request has been received on Tuesday, March 3, 2026. It will be reviewed and processed. A response will be sent within seven (7) business days after the City's custodian of records receives the request.
Please note that a proper OPRA request must identify with reasonable clarity the records desired. OPRA submissions which request all of an agency's documents, seek information (and not records), or ask questions are not proper requests. See Bent v. Stafford Police Department, 381 N.J. Super. 30, 37
(App. Div. 2005). In addition, record custodians are not required to conduct research or create new records in response to an OPRA request. You will benotified if your OPRA request requires clarification or is non-conforming.
Please contact this office should you require further guidance.
Sincerely,
OPRA
