Dear Mr. Carey,
I have received your below OPRA request regarding Internal Affairs Reports.
I forwarded your request to our Police Department and they conferred with our Township Attorney.
They have come to conclusion that your request is denied as this report is confidential as per the NJ Attorney General Guidelines. Specifically, the internal affairs report can only be released under a few select circumstances, two of which involve a subject officer needing the report if charges have been filed against him. The other reasons for release would be at the direction of the county prosecutor, Attorney General or upon a court order. Lastly the chief could authorize access to a particular file or record for good cause.
