Dear Colts Neck Township Police Department,

This is a request for public records made under OPRA and the common law right of access. I am not required to fill out an official form. Please acknowledge receipt of this message.

Records requested:
1. Count of all current and in-progress applications in process with the local police department, for Firearms Purchaser Identification Card and/or Handgun Purchase Permit.
2. Count of all applications not yet approved that have been in process at the police department longer than 30 days.
3. Count of all applications denied by the police department from 2/1/20-3/23/2021.
4. List the reason(s) why the applications in Item 3 above were denied (leave out any personal information).

Good Morning Mr. Magner,

 

The Colts Neck Police Department received your Open Public Records Act
(OPRA) request on March 23, 2021.  The official Records Custodian, Rae
Behrens; received your OPRA request on March 24, 2021.  As such, the seven
(7) business day deadline to respond to your request is April 2, 2021. 
This response to your request is being provided to you on the third
business day the custodian’s receipt of said request. 

 

The records related to the following request.

 1. “ Count of all current and in-progress applications in process with
the local police department, for Firearms Purchaser Identification
Card and/or Handgun Purchase Permit.”  There have been 671 Firearm
Purchaser Identification Cards and/or Handgun permits since March
2020.
 2. “Count of all applications not yet approved that have been in process
at the police department longer than 30 days.” At present we have 49
applications that are pending processing for various reasons example,
application has not been fingerprinted or provided correct
information.
 3. “ Count of all applications denied by the police department from
02/01/20-3/23/21.” 5 applicants were denied.
 4. “ List the reason(s) why the applications in Item 3 above were denied
(leave out any personal information).”  One applicant was denied
because of a Criminal Record and Falsification of Application, the
other four were denied for Health and Public Safety.

right to challenge the decision by the [insert name of agency] to deny
access. At your option, you may either institute a proceeding in the
Superior Court of New Jersey or file a complaint with the Government
Records Council (GRC) by completing the Denial of Access Complaint Form.
