Fee usage
Dear Bloomfield Township,
I am writing to inquire about the filing fees charged by the town I have learned that the state does not charge a fee for this filing.I would appreciate clarification on the following:The purpose of the fee charged by the town for [name of document/service].How the fee is calculated and any legal basis for this fee.How the collected fees are used within the community.Whether there is a possibility of obtaining a refund, as the state does not charge for this filing.I value the services the town provides, and I believe in the importance of transparency regarding the fees collected and how they are utilized. Your prompt response to this inquiry would be greatly

The Open Public Records Act (OPRA) is a statute which provides that government agencies are required to provide copies of public records to individuals requesting records, however there are a number of exceptions to what government records have to be produced, and the records that do have to be produced are subject to redactions of certain information. OPRA is not a statute that provides that members of the public may ask questions, nor does OPRA require government agencies to answer questions. If you ask for specific records that exist, and they are not exempt from disclosure, we will provide them to you as required. If a record doesn’t exist, or we do not know what you are requesting, nothing can be provided. Also, governmental agencies are not required to create a record to answer a question posed by someone. Your "OPRA Request" is not actually an OPRA request. You are asking the clerk to answer your questions, you are not requesting records which is the purpose and intent of the OPRA statute, therefore there are no records in response to your request.
Thank you.

"The Open Public Records Act permits the township to direct you to the website if the document you are seeking can be found on the website. All of the fees the township is permitted to charge, which you appear to be seeking, although I am not clear on what documents you are requesting, are set forth in the township code. This is the link. https://ecode360.com/BL0918
Any fee you are looking for can be found by simply searching for the particular fee. "
Thank you.
