BWC Footage Request
Dear Lyndhurst Township,
Please accept this electronic request for public records made under OPRA and the common law right of access. I am not required to fill out an official form or use a particular software platform to submit my request per NJSA 47:1A-6(f), which states that an email from a requestor including all of the information required on the adopted form shall suffice in place of a completed form as a valid government record request.
I HAVE NOT been convicted of any indictable offense under the laws of New Jersey, any other state, or the United States.
I WILL NOT use the requested government records for a commercial purpose.
I AM NOT seeking records in connection with a legal proceeding.
Records requested:
Requesting BWC Footage from the following incident on 11/12/2024:
Austin Gilchrist was unresponsive and slumped over the steering wheel of a Ford Escape with its engine running, when Lyndhurst police were called to DeJessa Bridge just before 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, Detective Lt. Vincent Auteri said.
When attempts to wake Gilchrist failed, officers forced entry into the vehicle. Upon waking, Gilchrist was assisted out of the car, and officers discovered a wax fold containing heroin, along with additional drug-related contraband. Further investigation revealed that Gilchrist was carrying 53 wax folds of heroin, authorities said.
Gilchrist was arrested and charged with possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia, being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance, and driving under the influence. He was released on his own recognizance.

With regard to your OPRA request received on June 23, 2025, a USB drive
containing the Body Worn Camera footage requested is available for pick up
at our office. There is a $4.00 fee for this drive, due upon receipt.
Please note that some redactions were made pursuant to Executive Order 26,
“information relating to medical, psychiatric or psychological history,
diagnosis, treatment or evaluation” which are excluded from public access.
Redactions were also made to remove certain personal identifiers which are
also non-disclosable under OPRA.
