Charlie Kratovil,

Hi Erin,
Thank you for the records.  I think there's some confusion in that I filed
two different records requests on 10/1.  One of them may have come through
a couple of times, as I was attempting to file it with both the South
Amboy Redevelopment Agency and the City at the same time.  I later heard
from the RA that your response was inclusive of their information, too.
Let's put aside that request, which pertained to paid public employees.
The other request I filed was for the directory of appointed officials
(i.e. your volunteer board and commission members).  I have not received
anything responsive to that.  The records you attached to your most recent
email pertain to the request about employees, save for the last 15 pages,
which are copies of our emails regarding the other request.  Nowhere in
the documentation I received is the directory that I requested.  As I
noted in the request, NJSA 40A:9-9.2 requires the directory to be
maintained on an ongoing basis.
Please share with me the directory, thanks for your help.

Hi Charlie:

Please send me anything you would need in OPRA form.

I will do them right away. They usually only take up to seven days.
Sometimes I get them sooner and will send info sooner.

Sometimes if they are not sent to me directly, they can get lost in the
process. Please send them all to [1][email address]

As for the redevelopment agency, I have nothing to do with them.

But you can send me an OPRA for them and I will make sure it gets to them.

If you have information for anyone or any department you can send it to me
 in OPRA form and I will make sure it gets to the correct person and
department.

We will get back to you asap.

I never talked to the redevelopment agency on anything.  I am not sure
what that is.

Call me anytime : )

Thank you

Erin,

I sent an OPRA request October 1 for the directory of all boards/commissions, etc. I will not be filing another request at this time. Instead I'm asking you to comply with the original request. You can see the language I submitted 10/1/24 below - it should have yielded a directory that you're required to maintain:

Please accept this electronic request for public records made under the OPRA and the common law right of access. I am a journalist with New Brunswick Today and Trenton Makes News, and require the records for my reporting on New Jersey's local governments, school districts, and autonomous authorities. I am not required to fill out an official form or use a particular software platform to submit my request per NJSA 47:1A-6(f), which states that an email from a requestor including all of the information required on the adopted form shall suffice in place of a completed form as a valid government record request.

I HAVE NOT been convicted of any indictable offense under the laws of New Jersey, any other state, or the United States.

I WILL NOT use the requested government records for a commercial purpose.

I AM NOT seeking records in connection with a legal proceeding.

Please provide a copy of your current directory of appointed officials, as of today, 10/1/2024, including at least the following information for every authority, board and commission:
(a) the name of the authority, board, or commission;
(b) the number of members or positions;
(c) a list of currently appointed members, along with their terms of office;
(d) vacancies;
(e) general frequency of meetings; and
(f) the appointing authority and the enabling statute, ordinance, or resolution, if any.

My preferred delivery method for response(s) to this request is by E-mail as an attachment.

If no current directory exists, or if the directory is missing some of the above information, be guided by NJSA 40A:9-9.2, which requires the above directory to be maintained on an ongoing basis and to include, at a minimum, the information that I am presently requesting.

Please confirm you have received this request, and feel free to contact me at 732-993-9697 if I can be helpful in clarifying this request. Thanks very much and have a nice day.

Does South Amboy maintain a directory of appointed officials as

must create and maintain the directory to comply with the law.

Dear Erin,

Thank you, but you did not address my question. So far, I've received a list of members for the SARA and the SAHA. I've not received anything at all regarding the Arts Alliance, Library Board, Planning/Zoning Board, Historic Preservation Commission, Green Team, Municipal Alliance, Parade Committee or any other appointed body that may exist.

I don't understand why I've had to ask so many times: Does the Clerk's Office maintain a current directory of these boards and their membership? If the Clerk's Office doesn't maintain such a directory (and therefore you have to send a bunch of emails to determine who is actually on these boards), then the city is in violation of the law I cited. There is a good reason that this law exists, and if South Amboy is not complying with it, we have a problem. If I can be helpful in explaining any further, please don't hesitate to call me at 732-993-9697. I'll forward to your response, thanks.

Yours sincerely,
