ALPR Information
Dear Princeton Township,
Please accept this electronic request for public records made under OPRA and the common law right of access. I am not required to fill out an official form or use a particular software platform to submit my request per NJSA 47:1A-5(f), which states that an email from a requestor including all of the information required on the adopted form shall suffice in place of a completed form as a valid government record request.
I HAVE NOT been convicted of any indictable offense under the laws of New Jersey, any other state, or the United States.
I WILL NOT use the requested government records for a commercial purpose.
I AM NOT seeking records in connection with a legal proceeding.
Records requested:
1. Any contracts or similar agreements related to any automated license plate reader (ALPR) systems installed in the township.
2. Any discussion of the equity of any such system, including the placement of them.
3. Any records related to what information from these systems is stored, for how long, and what is required for someone to access it.
4. Any data sharing agreements for said data between the township and other organizations.
My preferred delivery method for response(s) to this request is by E-mail as attachments. Please confirm you have received this request. If you are not the custodian of records, please forward my request to that person and provide their email address to me for future reference.

Your OPRA request has been received and has been submitted for processing.
Under New Jersey’s Open Public Records Act (OPRA), the law sets a seven (7) business day deadline for public agencies to respond to a valid OPRA request once it is received by the records custodian. For Commercial requests , please allow up to fourteen (14) business days. Thank you.

Dear Kerry Bruno,
Thanks for the prompt response to my request. To clarify, my primary basis for this request is OPRA. I included the common law right of access as an alternative in the event that any requested records are withheld or deemed exempt under OPRA.
In terms of common law, my interest is as a New Jerseyan whose tax dollars help fund the local government and who regularly travels in Princeton Township. As such, my data may be collected ALPR systems and thus transparency over how and why they are used is important to me.
