Please accept this electronic request for public records made under OPRA and the common law right of access. I am not required to fill out an official form or use a particular software platform to submit my request per NJSA 47:1A-6(f), which states that an email from a requestor including all of the information required on the adopted form shall suffice in place of a completed form as a valid government record request.

I HAVE NOT been convicted of any indictable offense under the laws of New Jersey, any other state, or the United States.

I WILL NOT use the requested government records for a commercial purpose.

I AM NOT seeking records in connection with a legal proceeding.

Records requested:

A list of traffic summonses and written warnings issued by the City of Cape May Police Department for moving violations for the time period from May 1, 2025 through September 1, 2025. Said list of violations to include the type of violation (title 39 code) and the location of the offense.

My preferred delivery method for response(s) to this request is by E-mail as attachments. Please confirm you have received this request. If you are not the custodian of records, please forward my request to that person and provide their email address to me for future reference.

The records request is specifically for records only maintained by the City of Cape May, NJ. The Borough of West Cape May does not maintain any records pertaining to traffic summonses issued by the City of Cape May Police Department. The appropriate authority and custodian of records for the City of Cape May is the Cape May City Borough Clerk.

While there may be internal record keeping that you are referring to, however that is inconsequential to NJ State Law which specifies per N.J.S.A. - 47:1A-1 et seq., that custodians must respond to the request within 7 business days, either by providing the records, denying access with a specific reason, or extending the response time to 14 business days for certain complex requests.
