The Mayor's Money or The People's Money?
Dear Mount Laurel Township,
Please accept this electronic request for public records made under OPRA and the common law right of access. I am not required to fill out an official form or use a particular software platform to submit my request per NJSA 47:1A-6(f), which states that an email from a requestor including all of the information required on the adopted form shall suffice in place of a completed form as a valid government record request.
I HAVE NOT been convicted of any indictable offense under the laws of New Jersey, any other state, or the United States.
I WILL NOT use the requested government records for a commercial purpose.
I AM NOT seeking records in connection with a legal proceeding.
Records requested:
1) Copies of the policy, ordinance, and/or resolution setting forth the base annual compensation and/or salary for the mayor of Mount Laurel.
2) Copies of the policy, ordinance, and/or resolution setting forth the bonus compensation for the mayor of Mount Laurel.
3) Copies of the policy, ordinance, and/or resolution setting forth the increase of salary and/or compensation for the mayor of Mount Laurel.
4) Copies of the policy, ordinance, resolution, and/or executive order of mayor Nikitas Moustakas to increase his compensation and/or salary as mayor.
5) Copies of the paystubs or other proofs of payment of compensation and/or salary of mayor/deputy mayor/councilman Nikitas Moustakas from the period of January 1, 2021 to the present.

Dear Requestor:
Mount Laurel Township received your October 24, 2025 OPRA and common law right of access request seeking the below categories of records and provides this timely response.
1) Copies of the policy, ordinance, and/or resolution setting forth the base annual compensation and/or salary for the mayor of Mount Laurel.
Response: Responsive documents attached. The Township has no policy or resolution on this issue.
2) Copies of the policy, ordinance, and/or resolution setting forth the bonus compensation for the mayor of Mount Laurel.
Response: Request denied. There are no responsive records for this request because council members do not receive bonus compensation.
3) Copies of the policy, ordinance, and/or resolution setting forth the increase of salary and/or compensation for the mayor of Mount Laurel.
Response: Request denied. There are no responsive records for this request. A council member is compensated $5,854.12 annually. The Deputy Mayor is compensated $6,104.12 annually. The Mayor is compensated $6,354.12 annually.
4) Copies of the policy, ordinance, resolution, and/or executive order of mayor Nikitas Moustakas to increase his compensation and/or salary as mayor.
Response: Request denied. Mayor Moustakas took no action to increase the salary for the position of mayor. Further, a Mayor does not have executive order powers under the Faulkner Act form of government.
5) Copies of the paystubs or other proofs of payment of compensation and/or salary of mayor/deputy mayor/councilman Nikitas Moustakas from the period of January 1, 2021 to the present.
Response: Responsive records attached include payroll registry reports from 1.1.2021 to the present.
This completes your OPRA request. As all responsive documents have been provided under OPRA, the Township does not consider the common law right of access request.
