Statistics for discipline referral
Dear Sayreville School District,
Please accept this electronic request for public records made under OPRA and the common law right of access. I am not required to fill out an official form or use a particular software platform to submit my request per NJSA 47:1A-6(f), which states that an email from a requestor including all of the information required on the adopted form shall suffice in place of a completed form as a valid government record request.
I HAVE NOT been convicted of any indictable offense under the laws of New Jersey, any other state, or the United States.
I WILL NOT use the requested government records for a commercial purpose.
I AM NOT seeking records in connection with a legal proceeding.
Records requested:
I request discipline record statistics for Sayreville Middle School and Sayreville High School.
Specifically I would like to know out of the various discipline referrals; write up, administrative detention, in school suspension, suspension, and expulsion what the specific annual totals are for the last 5 years as well as what percentage/ or number of students obtaining the various discipline referrals had an IEP/504 education plan.
My preferred delivery method for response(s) to this request is by E-mail as attachments. Please confirm you have received this request. If you are not the custodian of records, please forward my request to that person and provide their email address to me for future reference.
Yours faithfully,
Ann Jefferson

Dear OPRA - Public Records Request,
I am unable to call.
I would like to know the following annual data for the last 5 years for the high school and middle school:
- how many discipline referrals by category are issued annually- detention, iss, suspension, expulsion.
How many or what percentage of those annual numbers are students with a 504 plan or IEP.
I would also like to know for all of those years the total number for the student population and how many have a 504 and an IEP
I am studying multiple districts, in multiple states, and trying to gain an understanding for where special needs students fall statistically in comparison to other students in regards to discipline.
If you still require clarity please respond with your specific questions and concerns as written communication is preferred.
Thank you.
Yours sincerely,
Ann Jefferson
Have you reviewed the School Performance Report? You can download the data for many years for the entire state and specific districts.

For further clarification, is the disabled students numbers on the performance reports inclusive of all students on a 504 & an iep
Yours sincerely,
Ann Jefferson
Good Morning,
I've looked into this and the 504 students are not looped in with the special education students they are reported with the general education students. There are no reports we have available that would break out the data you're seeking for the 504 students.
