Dear Paramus Board of Education,

Please accept this electronic request for public records made under OPRA and the common law right of access. I am not required to fill out an official form or use a particular software platform to submit my request per NJSA 47:1A-6(f), which states that an email from a requestor including all of the information required on the adopted form shall suffice in place of a completed form as a valid government record request.
I HAVE NOT been convicted of any indictable offense under the laws of New Jersey, any other state, or the United States.
I WILL NOT use the requested government records for a commercial purpose.
I AM NOT seeking records in connection with a legal proceeding.
Records requested:

Copies of ALL invoices for all fire extinguisher, kitchen fire suppression and fire alarm services from 2020 to present
My preferred delivery method for response(s) to this request is by E-mail as attachments. Please confirm you have received this request. If you are not the custodian of records, please forward my request to that person and provide their email address to me for future reference.

Yours faithfully,

Tony Michael

Dear Mr. Michael,

This office is in receipt of your OPRA request dated April 3, 2026,
seeking:

“Copies of ALL invoices for all fire extinguisher, kitchen fire
suppression and fire alarm services from 2020 to present.”

Upon review, your request as currently written is overly broad and does
not identify specific government records with the reasonable clarity
required under OPRA.

The request spans multiple years and categories of services and would
require the District to search across various departments and systems and
to manually review, analyze, and compile records to determine which
invoices are responsive. OPRA does not require a records custodian to
conduct research or create records in order to respond to a request.

See MAG Entertainment, LLC v. Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control, 375
N.J. Super. 534 (App. Div. 2005); Bent v. Stafford Police Department, 381
N.J. Super. 30 (App. Div. 2005).

We would be happy to work with you to fulfill your request if you are able
to narrow its scope. For example, you may wish to:

• Limit the request to a specific vendor or contract,

• Limit the date range, or

• Identify specific types of records or locations.

Please provide clarification so that we may process your request.

In addition, please not the district is closed for spring break from
4/3-4/10 and responses are delayed until staff returns.

Sincerely,

Ms. Brooke Bartley
