Dear Oakland Borough,

Please accept this electronic request for public records made under OPRA and the common law right of access. I am not required to fill out an official form or use a particular software platform to submit my request per NJSA 47:1A-6(f), which states that an email from a requestor including all of the information required on the adopted form shall suffice in place of a completed form as a valid government record request.
I HAVE NOT been convicted of any indictable offense under the laws of New Jersey, any other state, or the United States.
I WILL NOT use the requested government records for a commercial purpose.
I AM NOT seeking records in connection with a legal proceeding.
Records requested:

Copies of ALL invoices for all fire extinguisher, kitchen fire suppression and fire alarm services from 2020 to present
My preferred delivery method for response(s) to this request is by E-mail as attachments. Please confirm you have received this request. If you are not the custodian of records, please forward my request to that person and provide their email address to me for future reference.

Yours faithfully,

Tony Michael

Dear Mr. Michael,
I am in receipt of your Open Public Records Act (OPRA) request seeking:
“Copies of ALL invoices for all fire extinguisher, kitchen fire
suppression and fire alarm services from 2020 to present.”
At this time, your request is overly broad and does not identify specific
government records as required under OPRA, N.J.S.A. 47:1A-1 et seq. OPRA
requires requestors to identify particular records with reasonable
clarity; it does not obligate a custodian to conduct research or compile
information across multiple departments or categories.
As submitted, the request would require a comprehensive search across
various departments, vendors, and systems without sufficient parameters to
determine what records are being sought.
To proceed, please clarify your request by identifying specific records,
such as:
A particular vendor or service provider
A specific department or location
A defined type of service (e.g., inspections, maintenance, repairs)
A narrower date range, if applicable
Upon receipt of a revised request that reasonably identifies the records
sought, we will continue processing in accordance with OPRA.
If no clarification is received, the request cannot be fulfilled as
currently written.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Best regards,
Wendi Seelin, CMR

Charlene Oselador, Oakland Borough

Good morning, Mr. Michael.
You submitted an OPRA request on April 3^rd for "copies of all invoices
for all fire extinguisher, kitchen fire suppression and fire alarm
services from 2020 to present." On April 9th, the Borough Clerk notified
you via email that the request is overly broad and requires a
comprehensive search across various departments, vendors, and systems
without sufficient parameters to determine what records are being sought
and requesting that you clarify your request by identifying specific
records such as a particular vendor or service provider, a specific
department or location, a defined type of service (inspections,
maintenance, repairs, etc.) or a narrower date range.
You have not responded to this request for clarification. Your OPRA
request is therefore deemed closed.
Should you have any questions, you can contact the Borough Clerk's office
between the hours of 8:30am and 4:30pm Monday through Friday.

Best Wishes,

Charlene M. Oselador, CMR
