Residents of the brown stones at new visions
Dear Brick Township,
This is a request for public records made under OPRA and the common law right of access. I am not required to fill out an official form. Please acknowledge receipt of this message.
Records requested:
All police calls to the residence of the brown stones at new visions located on Chambers Bridge Road. Reports to those calls during the time period of June 2021 through January 1st 2023.
Thank you
I have received your below OPRA request. However, the request is too broad and does not name a specific government record. Please provide a specific address to process your request.
The New Jersey Government Records Council states that "valid OPRA (Open Public Records Act) request seeks specific, identifiable government records. Valid OPRA requests do not ask questions, do not seek information, and do not require a custodian to conduct any research or create a new record. When a request is "complex" because it fails to specifically identify the documents sought, then that request is not "encompassed" by OPRA. See New Jersey Builders Association v. New Jersey Council on Affordable Housing, 390 N.J.Super. 166, 180 (App. Div. 2007). A proper request under OPRA must identify with reasonable clarity those documents that are desired, and a party cannot satisfy this requirement by simply requesting all of an agency's documents. OPRA is to "search" for a specific, identifiable, existing government record. It is not meant to "research" to see if a record exists. Research should be done prior to completing an OPRA request.

I forwarded your response with the streets to the Brick Township Police Records Department on 1/11/23. They requested an address, not streets, so I am not sure if that is still too broad. I am still awaiting their response. Once I receive one, I will be in contact.

Dear Jessica Larney,
It’s going to be every home on those street and in general such as if the call was regarding a parked car or just a suspicious activity call to a street in general with no address.
If they like all the street numbers I do have them, I just thought it would be easier for Brick township to pull by street rather then me give them individual addresses. I am trying to keep this simple and not waste Brick Township records time.
Yours sincerely,
Good citizen
