Dear Union City,

Please accept this electronic request for public records made under OPRA and the common law right of access. I am not required to fill out an official form or use a particular software platform to submit my request per NJSA 47:1A-6(f), which states that an email from a requestor including all of the information required on the adopted form shall suffice in place of a completed form as a valid government record request.

I HAVE NOT been convicted of any indictable offense under the laws of New Jersey, any other state, or the United States.

I WILL NOT use the requested government records for a commercial purpose.

I AM NOT seeking records in connection with a legal proceeding.

Records requested:

Copy of surveillance camera footage captured by City-owned cameras located at or near the Union City Welcome Center, located at 303 47th Street, pursuant to the Union City ordinance enacted in 2018 establishing a city-wide outdoor surveillance camera network for public safety and security.

This request relates to a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident that occurred on December 5, 2025, between approximately 8:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. During that time frame, my vehicle — a 2017 Honda CR-V, wine/burgundy in color, New Jersey license plate W22VMU — was struck while legally parked on Palisade Avenue, facing north, along the side of the Ronald Dario Recreation Center, located at 228 47th Street.

Union City Police Department issued Police Report / Case Number 25-174305 for a hit-and-run. I was advised that a detective would be assigned and would contact me regarding any available surveillance footage; however, to date, I have not received assistance or follow-up as requested.

My insurance carrier requires the surveillance footage to document the incident and, if possible, identify the vehicle involved, including obtaining a license plate number, so that my insurance claim may be properly processed.
