Request for Open Code Violations – 07/30/2025 to 08/14/2025 – Property Maintenance, Structural, Grass, Weeds, Lead Hazards (Excel Format)
Dear Spotswood Borough,
Please accept this electronic request for public records made under OPRA and the common law right of access. I am not required to fill out an official form or use a particular software platform to submit my request per NJSA 47:1A-6(f), which states that an email from a requestor including all of the information required on the adopted form shall suffice in place of a completed form as a valid government record request.
I HAVE NOT been convicted of any indictable offense under the laws of New Jersey, any other state, or the United States.
I WILL use the requested government records for a commercial purpose. (Real Estate)
I AM NOT seeking records in connection with a legal proceeding.
Records requested: Code Violation List Request for 07/30/2025 to 08/14/2025. I kindly request a list of all UNRESOLVED or OPEN code violations (please do not include closed violations) for all properties in the city during this time period, specifically related to property maintenance, structural issues, tall grass, lead hazard, and weeds. Please include descriptions of the violations, property addresses, and violation dates. I also prefer for the document to be sent here in OPRA not in my email (sometimes it does not appear in my inbox) and I am specifically requesting that the data be provided in Excel spreadsheet format (.xlsx). Thank you so much.
My preferred delivery method for response(s) to this request is by E-mail as attachments. Please confirm you have received this request. If you are not the custodian of records, please forward my request to that person and provide their email address to me for future reference.
Yours faithfully,
Mariya Asif

Official Borough Response
The Construction Office does not keep the records this person is
requesting.
Your OPRA request is now COMPLETE! Should you have any questions, please
advise.
Thank you
Anthony Ventrone
Dear Anthony Ventrone,
Thank you for your response regarding my OPRA request. Under the Open Public Records Act (N.J.S.A. 47:1A-1 et seq.), all public agencies are required to make government records accessible to the public. If the Construction Office does not maintain these records, it is the responsibility of the Borough to have the appropriate department provide the requested documents.
I am therefore formally requesting that the appropriate department provide the records I requested, specifically:
All unresolved or open code violations for all properties in the Borough between 07/30/2025 and 08/27/2025
Related to property maintenance, structural issues, tall grass, lead hazard, and weeds
Including descriptions of the violations, property addresses, and violation dates
Provided in Excel spreadsheet format (.xlsx) via OPRA
Per OPRA (N.J.S.A. 47:1A-5(g)), custodians are required to facilitate access to public records, and I expect that this request be fulfilled within the statutory timeline.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.
Yours sincerely,
Mariya Asif
To Whom It May Concern
Under OPRA, Governor Murphy signed a bill last year (S2930/A40450) into
law as P.L. 2024, c.16 and a requestor will either have to fill out an
OPRA form that is attached for your convenience or provide in writing a
response to the following questions:
Under penalty of N.J.S.A. 2C:28-3, I certify that:
· I have/ have not been convicted of any indictable offense under the
laws of New Jersey, any other state, or the United States.
· I will/ will not use the requested government records for a commercial
purpose.
· I am/ am not seeking records in connection with a legal proceeding.

Thank you
Anthony Ventrone
Dear Mr. Ventrone,
Thank you for your email. As part of my original request, I already provided the certifications required under P.L. 2024, c.16. For clarity and to avoid delay, I restate them here:
I have not been convicted of any indictable offense under the laws of New Jersey, any other state, or the United States.
I will use the requested government records for a commercial purpose.
I am not seeking records in connection with a legal proceeding.
As OPRA permits, this written certification should suffice in place of completing the form. Kindly confirm that my request is now being processed.
Thank you very much for your assistance.
Yours sincerely,
Mariya

Dear Anthony Ventrone,
Thank you for your response to my OPRA request.
To clarify, while the Borough may not maintain a compiled list of all unresolved or open code violations, individual code violation records issued during the requested timeframe should exist. Pursuant to OPRA, I am requesting copies of those individual records, specifically for violations between July 30, 2025 and August 27, 2025 related to property maintenance, structural issues, tall grass, lead hazards, and weeds.
If no such individual records exist for this period, please confirm in writing that no code violations of this type were issued or remain open during the timeframe requested.
Thank you for your assistance.
Best regards,
Mariya
Mariya,
The response is from the Construction office who issues the violations.
There are no records that meet your request.
Thank you
