Request for harrington park nj police report on my late partner's death
Dear Bergen County Sheriff's Department,
This is a request for public records made under OPRA and the common law right of access. I am not required to fill out an official form. Please acknowledge receipt of this message.
Records requested: I was told by an officer at the Harrington Park police dept that I need to file request with OPRA to view the police report and video of my late partner's death on July 23rd, 2023. The deceased name is Andrew Laird, I am his partner common law wife, my name is Christina Desjardins. Your response will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The records you have requested are exempt from disclosure under OPRA as
criminal investigatory records pursuant to N.J.S.A. 47:1A-1.1. Our counsel
advises that New Jersey has not recognized common law marriage since 1939.
However, you may be able to establish a common law right to some or all of
the records sought as next of kin, beneficiary, or other close relation.
