Request For bi weekly pay and reason for Paid leave which violated rule book
Dear East Orange City,
This is a request for public records made under OPRA and the common law right of access. I am not required to fill out an official form. Please acknowledge receipt of this message.
Records requested:
We have been informed of an instance of taxpayers dollars being wasted frivolously by East Orange Fire Department. We have received a copy of the East Orange Fire Department Rules and Regulations. The Rules and Regs state that any member who exceeds 24 hours of "Special Leave" shall not be paid and will be automatically payroll deducted with no exceptions. This rule book was written by the Chief of the Fire Department and signed off on by both unions. The Firefighter is of no wrongdoing as the Chief knowingly allowed this as this is a contradiction to the current rule book. Please see the following request below:
1. Can we have written documentation as to why the chief approved "PAID" special leave in excess of over 600 hours for Tahir Muhammad to pursue a hobby of boxing while being paid by taxpayers.
2. Can you confirm Firefighters Pay rate by the hour/salary?
3. Can we confirm if other members of Fire Department will be allowed to take 600 hours of "PAID" special leave or will this be a one off which is considered preferential treatment?
4. Can you please provide payroll Tahir Muhammad's payroll from May 2021 until the most recent payroll.
5. Can we confirm what kind of leave Tahir Muhammad is on as of now? He has been removed off of the active Fire Department roster. 1 month leave must be approved by the Department Head and the Mayor's office. Leave of 1-6 months must be approved by the Department head and the City Council. At this time no leave has been approved on record which means he should still be on the active roster.
6. Can we confirm as to why special leave has been removed by Chief Williams only after Tahir Muhammaad returned from 600 hours of special leave?
