Dear Wallkill Valley Regional High School,

Please accept this electronic request for public records made under OPRA and the common law right of access. I am not required to fill out an official form or use a particular software platform to submit my request per NJSA 47:1A-6(f), which states that an email from a requestor including all of the information required on the adopted form shall suffice in place of a completed form as a valid government record request.

I HAVE NOT been convicted of any indictable offense under the laws of New Jersey, any other state, or the United States.

I WILL NOT use the requested government records for a commercial purpose.

I AM NOT seeking records in connection with a legal proceeding.

Records requested:
During my review of records previously provided in response to an earlier OPRA request, I observed reference within email correspondence to a public grievance submitted on or about January 28, 2026. It is my understanding that, pursuant to Board policy, the Board is afforded 30 days to issue a response to a public grievance.

Accordingly, I am requesting the following records:

A copy of the public grievance submitted to the Board of Education on or about January 28, 2026.

Any and all records reflecting the Board’s written response to the grievance, including but not limited to letters, emails, memoranda, or other written communications generated by the Board or its representatives regarding the decision of the grievance, from January 28, 2026 to March 12, 2026.

As a concerned member of the public, I seek these records in the interest of transparency, accountability, and the public’s right to informed oversight. The matters implicated in this grievance including ethical standards, potential negligence, student safety considerations, and potential legal exposure raise serious concerns of substantial public importance. These issues directly implicate the public’s trust in the governance of the school district, the safety and welfare of students, and the responsible stewardship of taxpayer-funded resources. Transparency regarding how the Board has assessed and addressed these concerns is essential to ensure proper risk evaluation, institutional accountability, and continued public confidence in the Board’s oversight responsibilities. The absence of a clear and timely response to a grievance of this nature may reasonably give rise to concern within the community that serious matters affecting student welfare and district liability are not being addressed with the diligence and urgency they warrant.

Dear Joseph Hurley,

Specifically, I am requesting a full and complete copy of the grievance and/or complaint filed by Mr. Rock on or about January 28, 2026, with the Wallkill Valley Board of Education. According to the response to the OPRA request submitted on March 12, 2026 (emails), there is an email from Mr. Rock included in the records provided by you which states: “attached please find the original complaint along with an addendum,” indicating that the complaint was attached to that email.

At this time, I am formally requesting a copy of that original complaint/grievance, along with any addendum referenced, as attached to that email and made available as part of the public record.

How many complaints were submitted to the BOE by staff, parents, or members of the public in the month of January 2026?
