Dear Town of Newton Records Custodian,

Please accept this electronic request for public records made pursuant to the New Jersey Open Public Records Act (OPRA), N.J.S.A. 47:1A-1 et seq., and the common law right of access.

I am not required to submit this request on a specific form or through a particular software platform. Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 47:1A-6(f), an email from a requestor that includes all required information constitutes a valid OPRA request.

For certification purposes, I affirm the following:

I HAVE NOT been convicted of any indictable offense under the laws of New Jersey, any other state, or the United States.

I WILL NOT use the requested government records for a commercial purpose.

I AM NOT seeking these records in connection with any legal proceeding.

Records Requested

Please provide the following records created or maintained by the Newton Police Department for the period beginning December 1, 2025 at 00:01 hours through December 15, 2025 at 23:59 hours:

1) All Newton Police Department “NPD Short Reports” for incidents and events during the above-referenced time period.

2) All Newton Police Department Investigation Reports associated with incidents and events during the same time period.

3) Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) records and/or Calls for Service logs, including officer-initiated activity, for the same date and time range.

4) Arrest Logs/Booking Records associated with incidents and events during the same time period

This request includes all responsive records regardless of format, including but not limited to electronic records, databases, summaries, supplements, attachments, and related documents. If any portion of a record is exempt from disclosure, please redact only the exempt material and provide the remainder as required by OPRA.

Delivery & Processing

My preferred method of delivery is by email, with responsive records provided as electronic attachments.

If you are not the appropriate custodian of these records, please forward this request to the proper custodian and provide their name and email address for future reference. Please also confirm receipt of this request at your earliest convenience.

Dear Town of Newton,

I am writing to follow up on my OPRA request submitted on January 2, 2026. As of today, I have not received a response or a request for an extension.

Under the New Jersey Open Public Records Act (N.J.S.A. 47:1A-5.i), the records custodian is required to grant access to records, deny access, or request an extension within seven (7) business days of receipt of the request.

Please advise on the status of this request and when I can expect a response. If additional time is needed, kindly provide written notice identifying the reason for the delay and the anticipated date of fulfillment, as required by OPRA.
