OPRA Request - Police Department Salaries, Budgets, and Property Tax Allocation

Hammad Usmani made this OPRA request to Woodbridge Township Automatic anti-spam measures are in place for this older request. Please let us know if a further response is expected or if you are having trouble responding.

The request was successful.

Dear Woodbridge Township,

This is a request for public records made under OPRA and the common law right of access. I am not required to fill out an official form. Please acknowledge receipt of this message.
Records Requested:

1. Detailed information on salaries and budgets for the Woodbridge Police Department for the years following 2021.
2. Any documents, meeting minutes, and emails that discuss or relate to property tax increases and the allocation of these increases to the police department's budget.

This request is made based on information suggesting a significant portion of recent housing tax increases have been directed towards the police department's funding, as referenced in my prior communication with the office of Mayor John E. McCormac and supported by the document available on the township's website (https://www.twp.woodbridge.nj.us/Archive...).

Please acknowledge receipt of this request. According to the OPRA guidelines, I expect a response within seven business days. If there are any fees associated with the retrieval of these records, please inform me in advance of processing the request.

Should there be any questions or need for clarification regarding this request, I am available for contact at:

Dear FERNANDEZ, MANUEL,

Thank you for the reply and providing data about police salaries. I was able to parse and clean it in order to process it using a Jupyter notebook, a popular data science tool. The results can be found at https://www.scribd.com/document/71537656...

There are two main insights,
- There are more women civilian police than men
- Despite this, there exists an approximately 23% gender pay gap (mean salary of women: $54,739 men: $67,355).

Graphs and additional details can be found in the linked document.

Yours sincerely,
Hammad Usmani
