OPRA Request for I-80 East Sinkhole and Related Repairs
Dear New Jersey Department of Transportation,
Please accept this electronic request for public records made under OPRA and the common law right of access. I am not required to fill out an official form or use a particular software platform to submit my request per NJSA 47:1A-6(f), which states that an email from a requestor including all of the information required on the adopted form shall suffice in place of a completed form as a valid government record request.
I HAVE NOT been convicted of any indictable offense under the laws of New Jersey, any other state, or the United States.
I WILL NOT use the requested government records for a commercial purpose.
I AM NOT seeking records in connection with a legal proceeding.

1. Any reports, studies, assessments, or investigations regarding the cause and extent of the sinkhole.
2. All repair plans, proposals, and cost estimates for addressing the sinkhole and affected infrastructure.
3. Correspondence (including but not limited to emails, letters, and memos) between the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT), contractors, engineers, and any other involved parties regarding the sinkhole and planned or ongoing repairs.
4. Any contracts, agreements, or invoices related to the repair work.
5. Any public safety reports, detour plans, or traffic impact analyses concerning the affected section of I-80 East.

My initial request was submitted 31 business days ago.
You have entered my request date as April 16. Even based on that date, the statutory OPRA deadline of 7 business days expired on Friday, April 25.
Now, after the deadline has already passed, you are requesting an additional 11 business days, which is not compliant with OPRA requirements.
Extensions must be requested before the statutory deadline expires. An extension requested after the statutory time limit is improper under OPRA.
It seems there is always an excuse as to why this request has not been fulfilled.
First, you claimed the request was not received.
Then, after it was resent and acknowledged as received, you failed to respond within the proper timeframe.
Now, you are improperly seeking an extension after the deadline has already passed.
Please process my request without further delay.
