OPRA: Purchase invoice of body worn cameras for the police department
Dear Howell Township,
This is a request for public records made under OPRA and the common law right of access. I am not required to fill out an official form. Please acknowledge receipt of this message.
Records requested:
1. Total number of body cameras currently deployed in the police department.
2. Date on which body cameras were deployed to any of the police officers for the first time (year and month).
3. Invoice of body cameras purchase (if body cameras were purchased).

Good Morning,
In response to your OPRA please note that we will need more time to
complete the request.
1. Total number of body cameras currently deployed in the police
department.
2. Date on which body cameras were deployed to any of the police
officers for the first time (year and month)
3. Invoice of body cameras purchase (if body cameras were
purchased).
Your request requires additional time beyond the seven (7) business days
to fulfill because we need additional time to review and pull all the
documents. OPRA allows custodians to seek extensions of time pursuant to
N.J.S.A. 47:1A-5.i. Specifically, OPRA states that, “the requestor shall
be advised by the custodian when the record can be made available. If the
record is not made available by that time, access shall be deemed denied.’
Your request requires an extension of time until June 26, 2020.

Attached please find the response to your OPRA. This will complete this
request.

The total number of body cameras currently deployed is 49 body worn
cameras.
2. Date on which body cameras were deployed to any of the police officers
for the first time (year and month).
20 body worn cameras were deployed on 05/2017 and 30 body worn cameras
were deployed on 03/2019.
3. Invoice of body cameras purchase (if body cameras were purchased).
The attached Invoice from 2017 reflects the purchase of 20 BWC and the
Invoice from 2019 reflects the total to replace all the camera systems in
the patrol vehicles. BWC’s are not priced separately because each system
includes one BWC in the price for a total of 30.
