Morning,
Q? How do they choose a committee for events without the tenants having some kind of input? The tenants they have running these events have been here under 2 years. How do they choose these events that are poorly unattended? They don’t even attend monthly tenant meetings.
Earlier in the summer I called housing about the garbage receptacles outside throughout our property. Why were they removed and they said that someone was putting their personal garbage in them. I told them what I have seen from the apartment above me, B8, and there was no response now over the summer Lisa, the new tenant in B8 constantly has garbage and a lot of stuff outside of her apartment and now it's storing her things and the first floor. Each unit has storage space and coming from my 4 bedroom home I understand the downsize needed but I have spoken to Lisa on a couple of occasions about the noise of her dogs, she said call housing. When I related it to housing they said I have to call the police on her. I wouldn’t do that to a young mother. My daughter and I tried to help her with late night babysitting but after I told her it was just too messy up there, inside and out, for us to continue helping she didn’t care for it and so that stopped. The garbage cans were never put back and there was no notification or response. Housing put her on the Entertainment Committee (that’s a whole different problem). Now the school is back in session we will get small litter throughout the complex because they have nowhere to throw it. The prior tenant before her had three children and not as much noise, stuff outside and she definitely didn't throw her box of rotten vegetables over the balcony when she took it out. Here in the B building we have finally got rid of the mice and we are a neat, clean building. In the past when tenants brought something to you all tenants were punished or affected. I hope this time isn't the same, I don't want things taken away from residents who have been here 10+ years because of one tenant.
Also, I have a question about the maintenance and cleaning of the laundry room. In the summer time it is so hot because there's no fan that is suffocating to do laundry unless the sun is down. You closed the laundry room on 8/28 for repairs but still there's no more than two washers out of five that work ok. Now I have to wash clothes more frequently to be able to have clean clothes for my daughter and myself. This is another thing that you continuously blame us tenants about but again I've been here almost 10 years and we've never had this many problems with the laundry room. The bugs in there, the breakdowns and cleanliness is never ending. I keep asking this question even at the council meetings on chestnut…Why isn't there a woman to come around with all of the different male contractors and maintenance men when we do have single moms and young children at home? On a couple of occasions my 17 yr old daughter was home when the worker was inappropriate and WE were uncomfortable, she knows not to answer unless i am home. Unacceptable
Lastly, I know that we only have 2 maintenance men for both family sites but I don't understand why we don't have more. The last 2-3 years there's been so many hires inside the office but no maintenance. So I get why the grounds, the laundry room, things like that just aren't being taken care of also when things need to be done or fixed I understand some of the Maintenance men's frustrations but I don't understand is why they take it out on us the yelling, sometimes cursing and just unprofessional. It makes it very unpleasant to be around them. The parking lot incident from last Wednesday wouldn’t have happened if housing and maintenance weren’t so quick to disrespect a tenant.
I don’t know why nothing can be anonymous but there should be some sort of confidentiality when contacting the office so that the maintenance and tenants don’t fight each other. Weaver Street is a great place to live. When Michelle said that it was a stepping stone to live here I didn't understand what she meant. When I lost my home and went through a divorce I was so appreciative that Summit Housing had a place for my daughter and myself. We have made this our home. If it wasn't for affordable housing and the great town, community of Summit, my daughter wouldn't be the great individual she is today. I feel instead of intimidating us to take things away, i.e.: grills and outdoor hoses at the beginning of summer, garbage cans or threatening a warning for no apparent reason…we need people in the office that will work with us. Some of us have mental, physical or whatever issues we struggle with daily, SHA shouldn’t be one.
On several occasions, the few tenants that come to the meetings have asked for some type of rule and regulations for SHA so all tenants can be on the same page old and new, but Jacqueline nor Michelle will make us a copy of anything. We were told they were going to type something up, why are things not available to copy and send straight from HUD, RADD, to us. Feels like the office staff have their own set of rules for us.
I was told I have to always email from now on to keep a record and I know that other tenants have issues but are afraid to speak up and nothing is anonymous in that office. I hope that I don’t have any repercussions directly or indirectly after this email. We just want a pleasant home environment.
Thank you,
