Minutes of the Traffic, Parking and Safety Committee meeting(s) in June

Please see below in response to your OPRA request of Saturday, July 7th.
The scheduled meeting took place, however only Robert Sherman, Capt. Dave Rossbach and I were present. Former Mayor
Fred Rast and Councilman Jon Crowley informed me they would
be out of town. I wasn't notified that either Mrs. King or Mr. Howe would also be absent.
We asked Capt Rossbach some questions about the
various traffic issues the PD faces and enforces, and we had a general conversation about alleviating congestion during Ferry
"rush hours". No formal minutes were taken. No handouts, etc were
presented.
Some of the things we talked about included:
The street that most drivers are speeding on was Ocean
Blvd. No particular street stands out as having the most accidents. Whether an officer gives a warning or a citation is at the descretion of the officer. Controlling the traffic lights at Hwy. 36 during rush hour is probably the most effective way to improve the flow along 1st Ave-staffing issues would need to be addressed.
Installing stop signs that also have red LED lights might help with the "rolling stops" especially on Hennessey Blvd. intersections. I explained the history of the W. Mount Ave "paper street" vacation ordinance that Council withdrew in December, and that it needs to be revisited so that slanted parking on Hennessey can move forward.
Administrator Hubeny continues to reapply for grants like Safe Routes to School, and the PD gets some related traffic grants-but so far none to pay for the lighted crosswalks we'd like. Mr. Hubeny and I have a meeting scheduled in July with the NJ DOT re: the fact we were one of the few Monmouth County towns that did not receive recent DOT financial aid.
The PD traffic safety team wants to have a bike safety
clinic/demonstration for the children in time for school re-opening.
I mentioned that we are trying to schedule an architect familiar with parking structures to meet with this committee which will determine the next meeting date for this committee.
This is the best recollection I have of our discussions.

Mr. Howe is a resident, former Planning Board Member and Landscape Architect.
