Jan 5 Incident
Dear New Jersey Attorney General’s Office,
Please accept this electronic request for public records made pursuant to the New Jersey Open Public Records Act (“OPRA”), N.J.S.A. 47:1A-1 et seq., and the common law right of access.
Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 47:1A-6(f), I am not required to complete an official form or use a specific software platform to submit this request. An email containing all required information constitutes a valid OPRA request.
I affirm the following:
• I have not been convicted of any indictable offense under the laws of New Jersey, any other state, or the United States.
• I will not use the requested records for a commercial purpose.
• I am not seeking these records in connection with any legal proceeding.
⸻
Records Requested
I respectfully request access to all existing government records related to the triple homicide that occurred in Piscataway Township, New Jersey, on or about January 5, 2026, during the evening hours (approximately after 7:00 p.m.), reportedly in the vicinity of River Road and Mitchell Avenue.
This request includes, but is not limited to, the following records, regardless of format (electronic, audio, video, written, or otherwise):
1. Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) records, call logs, incident numbers, event summaries, and timestamps related to the incident.
2. 911 call recordings, transcripts, and associated metadata for any calls made in connection with the incident.
3. Police radio transmissions and dispatch audio related to the response.
4. Body-worn camera (BWC) footage from all responding officers, including initial response, scene security, and subsequent actions.
5. Dash camera footage from any responding patrol vehicles.
6. Initial incident reports, offense reports, and preliminary summaries, including cover sheets and first-response documentation.
7. Scene logs, including entry/exit logs, unit assignments, and lists of responding personnel.
8. Arrest reports, charging documents, complaints, or warrants, if any have been generated.
9. Search warrants, warrant applications, affidavits, and returns, to the extent they have been executed or filed.
10. Evidence inventory logs or property records, excluding sensitive forensic details if exempt.
11. Inter-agency communications between the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office, Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, and/or Piscataway Police Department concerning this incident, excluding privileged legal strategy.
12. Press releases, public statements, talking points, or internal briefing materials prepared for public or media dissemination.
⸻
Segregability, Redactions, and Rolling Production
If any portion of the requested records is exempt from disclosure due to an ongoing investigation or another OPRA exemption, I specifically request that:
• All reasonably segregable, non-exempt portions be released.
• Any exempt material be redacted rather than withheld in full, as required by law.
• This request not be denied in its entirety solely because portions of a record may be exempt.
• A written, itemized explanation be provided for each record or portion withheld, citing the specific statutory exemption(s) relied upon.
• Records be produced on a rolling basis as they become available.
This request seeks access only to existing government records and does not require the creation of new records.
⸻
Delivery and Custodianship
My preferred method of delivery is by email with records provided as attachments or downloadable links.
Please confirm receipt of this request. If your office is not the custodian of any responsive records, please forward this request to the appropriate records custodian and provide their contact information for future reference.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
sincerely,
SR
