Re: OPRA Request for Body Camera Footage – DWI Stop of Gina LaPlaca on March 17, 2025
Dear Custodian of Records,
Pursuant to the New Jersey Open Public Records Act (OPRA), N.J.S.A. 47:1A-1 et seq., I am requesting a copy of the full body camera footage for each officer involved in the DWI stop of Gina LaPlaca on March 17, 2025. Specifically, I am requesting footage that includes:
The body cam footage from all officers who were on site for the call during the DWI stop, starting shortly after 5:30 p.m. on March 17, 2025, and continuing until the point at which police made contact with Gina LaPlaca's husband, Jason Carty, at home in order to have him sign for her release from the hospital.
This request includes all footage from the body cameras of officers who were present during the detainment of Ms. LaPlaca, both on the scene of the stop and in the holding cell.
Please ensure that all requested footage includes the full video from the time of the initial contact with Ms. LaPlaca and covers any events related to her detainment, interaction with officers, and the release process involving her husband.
If possible, I would prefer to receive this footage in a digital format, either through a secure link or via email, to avoid unnecessary physical storage.
If any part of this request is denied, I ask that you provide an explanation of the denial, including the specific exemptions under OPRA that apply.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your prompt response. If you have any questions or need clarification regarding this request, please do not hesitate to contact me.
My preferred delivery method for response(s) to this request is by E-mail as attachments. Please confirm you have received this request. If you are not the custodian of records, please forward my request to that person and provide their email address to me for future reference.
Yours faithfully,
Michael
