Firearms Applications Information
Dear Howell Township,
This is a request for public records made under OPRA and the common law right of access. I am not required to fill out an official form. Please acknowledge receipt of this message.
Records requested:
1. Count of all current and in-progress applications in process with the local police department, for Firearms Purchaser Identification Card and/or Handgun Purchase Permit.
2. Count of all applications not yet approved that have been in process at the police department longer than 30 days.
3. Count of all applications denied by the police department from 2/1/20-3/23/2021.
4. List the reason(s) why the applications in Item 3 above were denied (leave out any personal information).

Good Afternoon,
In response to the OPRA request:
1. Count of all current and in-progress applications in process
with the local PD, for FID and or handgun permits: 129 total applications
pending-includes applications currently being worked on; applications
waiting for fingerprints; and applications waiting for mental health forms
from applicants.
2. Count of all applications not yet approved that have been in
process at the police dept. longer than 30 days: 54 applications total. 50
applications waiting for fingerprint submissions and 4 waiting on mental
health forms/Dr’s. notes.
3. Count of all applications denied by the police department
from 2/1/20-3/23/2021: 16 Denial for CCH (Criminal History) and 4 Denials
for Mental Health
4. Reasons why applications were denied: Criminal History and
Mental Health Denials
This will complete this request.
