Current number of employees in NJEA collective bargaining unit and number of employees with NJEA dues withheld from their paychecks
Dear Jersey City Board of Education,
Please accept this electronic request for public records made under OPRA and the common law right of access. I am not required to fill out an official form or use a particular software platform to submit my request per NJSA 47:1A-6(f), which states that an email from a requestor including all of the information required on the adopted form shall suffice in place of a completed form as a valid government record request.
I HAVE NOT been convicted of any indictable offense under the laws of New Jersey, any other state, or the United States.
I WILL NOT use the requested government records for a commercial purpose.
I AM NOT seeking records in connection with a legal proceeding.

Please provide the current number of employees in the NJEA collective bargaining unit for the Jersey City School District and the current number of employees with NJEA dues withheld from their paychecks.

I am writing to request an internal review of Jersey City Board of Education's handling of my OPRA request 'Current number of employees in NJEA collective bargaining unit and number of employees with NJEA dues withheld from their paychecks'.
We submitted our OPRA request on May 1, 2025 and Jersey City should have responded by May 12, 2025. It is May 15 and we have no response.

Dear Sunlight Policy Center,
The district is in receipt of your Open Public Records Act (OPRA) response
dated May 1, 2025 which stated:
"Please provide the current number of employees in the NJEA
collective bargaining unit for the Jersey City School District and the
current number of employees with NJEA dues withheld from their paychecks."
Please be advised that OPRA statutes require a requester to identify the
specific documents that the public entity is being asked to retrieve.
Please also be advised that the district does not have a document that
specifically addresses the information requested.
Nevertheless, the district has done some review of district staffing
records as well as payroll records for the May 1, 2025 pay date and can
report:
Total employees working in titles covered by the Jersey city educator
association teacher positions is 2,554.
Of those employees, there are 2,345 who had union dues withheld from
their May 1, 2025 paycheck.
Please be advised that there was a delay in responding to your request
because the request was sent to the mailbox of an employee on
administrative leave and that mailbox is monitored periodically.
In the future, to avoid any delay in responses you are encouraged to use
the portal on the district website to submit OPRA requests. To utilize the
portal visit www.jcboe.or. On the homepage choose "Board of Education.
From the drop down list choose "OPRA Request". You will be redirected to
the page where OPRA requests can be submitted.

Records Act (OPRA) request that was submitted originally on May 1, 2025.
the original request concerned dues payments.
Please be advised that the original OPRA request wa answered on May 16,
