Communications that pertain to the use of the term 'to curry favor' and my removal as PTA president at the high school.

Response to this request is long overdue. By law, under all circumstances, Scotch Plains-Fanwood School District should have responded by now (details). You can complain by requesting an internal review.

Dear Scotch Plains-Fanwood School District,

This is a request for public records made under OPRA and the common law right of access. I am not required to fill out an official form. Please acknowledge receipt of this message.
Records requested:
All texts, notes, emails, recordings and other means of communication which took place from May 20, 2020 through March 10, 2021 pertaining to the above listed incident. Results should include any and all SPF District employees and volunteers, SPFPTA members, EEF of SPF board members and volunteers, SPF parents and anyone else who participated in conversations about these topics. This should include, but is not limited to, any emails, texts or other communications from parents, volunteers and staff which supported the work being done by me during my tenure as PTA president and opinions on the actions of the school district.

Yours persistently,
Maggie Savoca

P.S. It would have been much easier on everyone had Dr. Mast been willing to discuss the matters of this as a mature adult.

Douglas Silvestro,

Dear Ms. Savoca:

The District is in receipt of your latest OPRA request below, which seeks
copies of correspondence.  Your request, as currently written, is overly
broad and does not comport with the requirements of a valid OPRA request
for correspondence.

Specifically, in order to be considered valid, a request for
correspondence must identify all of the following:

 1. Identity of sender;
 2. Identity of recipient;
 3. Date or date range; and
 4. Subject matter.

Although your request identifies three of the four elements above, it
fails to identify both the sender and the recipient of the correspondence
being sought.  OPRA does not allow for requests for correspondence records
either to or from “anyone” or “everyone” regarding any given subject;
rather, the requester must identify exactly who the correspondence being
sought was sent to and from.

Additionally, it appears that your request is seeking records similar to
those you have already been provided.  The only differences between your
request below and the request that has already been completed by District
are the scope of those identified (as noted above), a beginning date of
May 20, 2020 instead of May 25, 2020, and an end date of March 10, 2021
instead of February 25, 2021.  If you intention was to simply expand the
scope of your prior request by the additional time period as noted, please
advise.  Alternatively, you may consider resubmitting your request in
accordance with the requirements set forth above.  Until such time,
however, the District must consider this request denied.

Sincerely,

Douglas M. Silvestro, Esq.
