Body-Worn Camera Footage, Murder/Robbery Incident, Olympus Apartment Homes, Baker Boulevard, Evesham Township, NJ — February 5, 2022

Response to this request is long overdue. By law, under all circumstances, Evesham Township should have responded by now (details). You can complain by requesting an internal review.

Dear Records Custodian,
Under the New Jersey Open Public Records Act (N.J.S.A. 47:1A-1 et seq.), I request body-worn camera (BWC) recordings related to the response and investigation at Olympus Apartment Homes, Baker Boulevard, Evesham Township, NJ, on February 5, 2022, when officers from the Evesham Township Police Department were first called to the scene for reports of a possible dog attack and upon arrival discovered Thomas Pierson III, 26, deceased inside his apartment suffering from multiple stab wounds, along with his Cane Corso dog, Django, who had also been fatally stabbed. The investigation revealed that Donovan G. Hollingsworth, 27, of Evesham, NJ, had traveled to Pierson's apartment with the intent to rob him. Hollingsworth was subsequently convicted of first-degree murder, first-degree robbery, third-degree cruelty to animals, and related charges, and sentenced to 34 years in state prison.
Please provide a small number (max 5) of clear, non-duplicative officer BWC angles (no more than five total) that depict:

Arrival & first contact at the Olympus Apartment Homes on Baker Boulevard in response to the initial dog attack call;
Officers' discovery of Thomas Pierson III deceased inside his apartment and documentation of the scene;
Documentation of the deceased dog, Django, found at the scene;
Any interaction with witnesses or bystanders at the Olympus Apartment Homes;
Any contact with or arrest of Donovan G. Hollingsworth in connection with this incident.

To assist in locating these records, I provide the following specific identifying information:

Victim: Thomas Pierson III, 26
Suspect: Donovan G. Hollingsworth, 27, of Evesham, NJ
Date: February 5, 2022
Location: Olympus Apartment Homes, Baker Boulevard, Evesham Township, NJ
Initial Call: Reports of a possible dog attack
Charges: First-degree murder, first-degree robbery, third-degree cruelty to animals, and related charges
Sentence: 34 years in state prison (30 years no parole for murder, 4 years for killing of dog)

Please use CAD/dispatch records to identify all calls and officer deployments related to this incident at the Olympus Apartment Homes on Baker Boulevard on February 5, 2022. I specifically request that CAD/dispatch records be used to cross-reference and identify all BWC footage associated with this incident.
This request is limited to the single on-scene response and investigation at the Olympus Apartment Homes on February 5, 2022. I do not seek any BWC from subsequent proceedings, the arrest of Hollingsworth at Virtua Voorhees Hospital, or unrelated incidents.
Delivery & format: Electronic delivery (download link/portal) of original/native files when available (with embedded timecodes/metadata).
Redactions: Apply only those required by law and release all reasonably segregable portions. If any portion of a recording is exempt, please redact only that portion and release the remainder. Please do not withhold an entire recording solely because a portion may require redaction. If any segments require no redaction, please release them promptly.
If no BWC footage exists, please provide a written certification stating that no responsive body-worn camera recordings exist for this incident, along with the name and title of the certifying official, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 47:1A-5(g).
Fees / special service charge: This is a non-commercial, public-interest journalism request tailored to a few specific, non-duplicative angles and electronic delivery. Given the narrow scope and routine format, this request does not require an "extraordinary expenditure of time and effort" under N.J.S.A. 47:1A-5(c); no special service charge should apply. Please confirm that electronic production will be provided at no charge. If you nonetheless contend a special service charge applies, do not proceed and notify me in writing of the estimated charge before proceeding.
Response Deadline: Under N.J.S.A. 47:1A-5(i), you are required to respond to this request within seven (7) business days of receipt. If you require additional time, please notify me in writing within the seven-day period with the reason for the delay and the anticipated response date.
Please confirm receipt of this request and advise if any additional locating detail would help identify the responsive records.
Sincerely,
Bill Johnson
