A Message from the Safety Director

May 7 – 11, 2018 is National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction Week. A Safety Stand-Down is a voluntary event for employers to talk directly to employees about safety. Agencies can observe the stand-down by talking about fall hazards and reinforcing with employees the hazards they face, protective methods, and the company's safety policies and goals. It can also be an opportunity for employees to talk to management about fall and other job hazards they see.

The Safety Director encourages our members to participate in this observance. New Safety Briefings have been added to the MEL website (www.njmel.org), under the Bulletin menu. Some other organizations have also added resources to their sites:

·         OSHA: https://www.osha.gov/StopFallsStandDown/

·         NIOSH: https://www.cdc.gov/niosh/topics/falls/

·         Center for Construction Research and Training: http://stopconstructionfalls.com

Please share this information widely with all departments that work at heights such as Public Works or Utilities, and with other members of your safety team.

*Please note the e-mail is being sent “bcc” to Fund Commissioners, Safety Coordinators and Risk Managers
