Re: Open Public Records Act (OPRA) Request(s) Acknowledgment
This office received your OPRA request for 911 Call
Recordings/transcripts, re: call made 1/23/2022 8pm from (a give cell
number and address), on 5/31/2022. OPRA requires that a response be
provided within 7 business days, beginning the first business day after
receipt of the request. We will have a response prepared by 6/9/2022.
Records are typically provided to requestors in electronic format, for
which there is usually no cost. However, the County will advise of any
fees before the charge is incurred.
OPRA ordinarily grants immediate access to budgets, bills, vouchers,
contracts (including collective negotiations agreements and individual
employment contracts), and public employee salary and overtime
information. While the County makes every effort to provide immediate
access to such documents, processing may take longer depending on the
amount of records requested, medium requested, if documents are in use, if
redaction is required or documents are in storage, or if the request
requires extensive work to complete. The same is true for requests for
non-immediate access documents. When additional time is needed to process
a request, the County provides requestors with written updates
accordingly.
If no records are available, or the record(s) are exempt in accordance
with OPRA, the County will advise accordingly; if your OPRA request is
denied, you have a right to appeal the decision. You may file your appeal
with the New Jersey Government Records Council (GRC) or the New Jersey
Superior Court, as provided by N.J.S.A. 47:1A-6 and 7. For additional

Dear DF222:
This email constitutes a formal and complete response to your 5/31/2022,
OPRA request for records concerning 911 Call Recordings re: 1/23/2022.
The Union County Police Department responds, stating that they did not
process a call for any MVA on that date and time. For further
information, contact the municipality where the accident occurred for the
information, or if it was on a highway then the State Police. As the
incident apparently occurred in Elizabeth you would need to contact them.
The County of Union does not handle dispatching for Elizabeth.

Please let me know what "MVA" stands for.
Also, please let me know if the township of Cranford is in the jurisdiction of Elizabeth.

I beg your pardon: It appears that an incorrect response was sent for your inquiry. The response you received appears to have referred to another inquiry from another requestor.

Please accept this email as an amended response to your 6/9/2022 OPRA
request for records concerning the two 911 call recordings/transcripts in
reference for help made on 1/23/2022 @ approximately 8:00pm from cell
phone number (213) 766-8322 from 22 Hampton Rd – Cranford.
In accordance with N.J.A.C. 17:24-2.4 and the New Jersey State Records
Retention Schedule, the retention period for 911 recordings is 31 days;
accordingly, the County 911 center no longer maintains a copy of this
recording.
Regarding the Township of Cranford specifically, the County receives 911
calls for the Township, but if such calls are police matters, same are
forwarded immediately to the municipal police. The County handles the 911
call if it concerns a fire or a medical situation.
