Please be advised that the Somerset County Department of Health is not the local health department for the requested municipality. For a comprehensive records review, you must contact the local health department listed on the attachment. The local health department has primary jurisdiction.
The County Health Department's role within the requested Township or Borough is limited to the specific inspections of public/commercial/industrial properties, as delegated by the NJDEP, via the County Environmental Health Act (CEHA) grant. For example, we inspect dry cleaners, public non-community water systems, solid waste and recycling facilities, etc. The CEHA program has no role for issues at private residences - any health or environmental issues are purview of the local health department and/or NJDEP.
In addition to delegates inspections, the CEHA program may respond, on NJDEP's behalf, to certain complaints filed with the NJDEP hotline. We may also directly respond to a facility in response to a citizen complaint, such as an unpermitted discharge, noise, or odor/dust.
