2020 Police Internal Affairs Summaries and Synopses
Dear Piscataway Township Police Department,
Under OPRA and the common law right of access, please provide copies of all police internal affairs ("professional standards") summary records for the year 2020, including all annual, quarterly, and monthly reports, as well as the required synopses identifying major discipline cases, in accordance with the Attorney General of New Jersey's Directive 2020-5. Dear Mr. Kratovil,
The Piscataway Police Department received your Open Public Records Act (OPRA) request on Monday, June 14, 2021. As such, the seven (7) business day deadline to respond to your request is Tuesday, June 22, 2021. This response to your request is being provided to you on the fifth business day after the custodian's receipt of said request.
The following records are being provided in their entirety and are responsive to your request.
1. IA Quaterly reports for 2020
2. IA Yearly report for 2020
The following records are being denied:
1. Monthly IA reports as they do not exist. The department is only required to submit quarterly and annual reports to the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office.
2. Synopsis of major discipline cases for 2020 in accordance with AG Directive 2020-5 and covered under the AG Internal Affairs Policy and Procedure Section 9.11.2 does not exist at this time. This synopsis will be released in accordance with the court ruling.

Thank you and congratulations on your recent promotion. I believe the PPD should have already prepared the synopses without the officers' names for the year 2020, in accordance with AG guidelines. For now, please provide those synopses, and I will follow up next month to obtain the synopses with officer names.

The reporting was done via a web llink. We had no major discipline to report therefore no Appendix L was completed. The printouts from the web submission provided to me from Captain Morrison, as he is in charge of interal affairs, are attached. In addition, the synopsis has been added to our website, also indicating no major discipline for our department.
